McCain endorses Obama?
Well not really, but at his rally, McCain told people that Obama is a good decent family man who they shouldn't fear as president. One lady took the mike and said "I don't trust Obama because he is an arab." Of which McCain shook his head no and took the mike from her, stating that he's not. He also said that although he thinks he'd make a better president than Obama, he had to say that he considered Obama an associate that had differing opinions, but there was nothing bad about him. He was booed at his own rally for this. Obama, on the other hand, was booed at his rally for complimenting McCain on his words concerning the matter.
Of course, this goes against his own campaign strategy of painting Obama as a scary liberal with ties to shady organizations, etc. I think McCain is upset because he is starting to realize that there is a good chance he will lose the election, and not only that, but has lost the reputation that he has run on in his political career. I read a story today how there is a bit of infighting going on in his campaign, as Palin wants to hit Obama hard on Ayers, Wright, etc, and McCain doesn't want to go there. |

That sounds distinctly like the old Senator McCain emerging from under the mask of Candidate McCain -- telling it like it is, even if it's not popular. This is the very honesty and truth-telling that made McCain interesting in 2000, but of course, the neocons in his party hated him for it. I think if McCain had stuck to the conventional reality of what he really thinks (rather than waving the neocon flag of imperialism), he'd've come across as a party-healing maverick in this campaign rather than as a wishy-washy self-contradictory mouthpiece. As for constituents booing one candidate for giving credit to the other, it's just sad, really. If Americans are so divided that we can't see the value in the opposition, the next president is going to have a hard time making a change for the better. Reaching across the aisle is more than just talk, it's the reality of American Freedom. If we can't agree to disagree, set aside our foundationless "team spirit," and try to find common ground, how do we expect to make the world a better place? |

RE: McCain endorses Obama?
I'm starting to think that no matter who wins, this country will be more divisive than it ever has been. I'd hoped that this election wouldn't result that way, but it seems with people from both sides ramping up attacks, it's less likely that we can come together after the fact. It's almost scary.
