Overheard on progressive radio -- Clinton supporters love McCain?

Okay, I'm conflating opinions with outcomes here, but the subject line captures the gist. This morning on Jones Radio's Stephanie Miller show, Joanne from Chicago called in to say that she's a fierce Clinton supporter, and as such, she needed the Obama supporters to know that if we make Obama the nominee, she and all Clinton supporters will NOT vote for him.

Why? Why would democrats not vote for a democrat but instead throw their support behind the republican candidate? Why would they turn away from the candidate their own party supports, and who holds similar positions on the issues to their second-place candidate, in favor of a candidate who supports 100 years of imperialist policy and a continued drive toward corporate-controlled society?

Joanne from Chicago says it's because the media has been unfair to Clinton. The media has been unfair to Clinton, pushing Obama to the lead, and so in retaliation, Clinton supporters will vote for McCain.

I am experiencing a complete failure to understand this line of thinking. (And as an Obama supporter, there was a period of time a couple of months ago when I thought I might have to vote for Clinton in November.)
