List Your Favorite Obama "Gets It" Quotes
Every time I hear what he has to say at a debate, he surprises me with comments that not only shows "he gets it," but that he has a remarkable understanding of issues and human nature.
So on this thread, list your favorite "he gets it" comments and if possible, provide a link to the source. Just watch the last four minutes of Barack's interview with Google. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4yVlPqeZwo He basically says that American people have are a decent people but they're just too busy and inexperienced with handling lots of information (SO TRUE!). But deep down inside, they have a common sense that works when given good information. (The fundamental premise of democracy.) He also wants to make decisions based on facts and reasons and that the the Presidency should be a bully pulpit to give Americans good information. |

RE: List Your Favorite Obama "Gets It" Quotes
One of my favorite Barack moments: During the debate in L.A. Clinton was asked why she DID NOT vote for the Levin amendment, requiring Bush to report to Congress about the U.N. inspection before taking military action.
Clinton rambled through a convoluted side-stepping response... Then Obama simply said: "The legislation, the authorization, had the title An Authorization to Use U.S. Military Force, in Iraq. I think everybody, the day after that vote was taken, understood, this was a vote potentially to go to war." (Applause.) Simple. Clear. Indesputable. Clinton sounded like Condi Rice at the 9-11 Commission, playing dumb about the PDB titled "Al Qaeda Planning to Fly Planes into US Buildings"...or whatever it was. Sheesh!!!!! Go Obama! |

RE: List Your Favorite Obama "Gets It" Quotes
He's had so many one liners or brief paragraphs that have great meaning. My personal favorite:
We are the ones that we have been waiting for. I don't mind risking Hillary-ness, but I honestly choked up. I was a history major in college, and spent a great deal of time thinking about what should have been done when. And now here he is reminding me that I am not a child, I am part of the generation taking control of this country. *I* will be responsible for those mistakes my kids read about in their history books. This is a really big deal. This is a life or death matter. |

RE: List Your Favorite Obama "Gets It" Quotes
Sorry for the double post, but a close second favorite just popped into my head.
I look forward to you advising me as well, Hilary. (Not an exact quote.) I know a lot of people just think it's funny (and it is), but it's also about his willingness to listen, even to his rivels. It also accentuates the quick wit he will need in the general election. Man, I just love this guy!! |

RE: List Your Favorite Obama "Gets It" Quotes
again, i loved this one"
"we are who we have been waiting for." obama really does get it. what does he get? he gets the spirit and soul of the human experience. i believe that he got that from his family background. he is so in touch with how important it is to really care about someone else and what they think. he is not about just rhetoric, his conversation is truly about respect and the need for us to listen to each other. yet, the guy is brilliant. hrc tends to be very knowledgeable, however, she doesn't demonstrate that she is really in touch with the spirit of what is going on in t he world today. |

I've got another one!
"It's time to turn the page." So simple but says SO MUCH!! I too love this guy, the more I hear him. After the Dark Ages of the Bush Era, I am so thrilled he is running. He is restoring my faith in the potential of this country and I wish for him and his family the absolute best. |

I just can't get this one out of my head, from Yes We Can in New Hampshire:
In the unlikely story that is America, there is nothing false about hope! |

RE: List Your Favorite Obama "Gets It" Quotes
In the Las Vegas debate with Obama, Clinton, and Edwards, there was a question that really sticks out in my mind as a turning point in the campaign.
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2008/jan...ranscript/ Russert asked, "...quickly, your greatest strength, your greatest weakness." Obama went first with, "...my greatest weakness, I think, is when it comes to — I’ll give you a very good example. I ask my staff members not to hand me paper until two seconds before I need it because I will lose it.…And my desk and my office doesn’t look good. I’ve got to have somebody around me who is keeping track of that stuff." This is basically a "I'm not very organized" response. Edwards goes next with, "I think weakness, I sometimes have a very powerful emotional response to pain that I see around me...And I feel that in a really personal way and in a very emotional way. And I think sometimes that can undermine what you need to do." Are you kidding me? My weakness is that I have an emotional response to pain I see around me? I WANT a President that has an emotional response to pain they see around them! Clinton goes last with, "I get impatient. I get, you know, really frustrated when people don’t seem to understand that we can do so much more to help each other. Sometimes I come across that way. I admit that. I get very concerned about, you know, pushing further and faster than perhaps people are ready to go." Okay, this is the "I get frustrated when people around me don't want to work as hard as I do" response. Again...are you kidding me? Go....get frustrated...get mad...tell people around you to work harder....yell at them to help each other more. Go for it! get some! Okay, the point of all this. After this brief exchange I thought to myself, "Okay, I get it. Obama is the honest candidate. He gave a really honest answer. His 'weakness' was actually a real weakness. He's not organized. Clinton just played the game. After the debate I heard comments like, "It showed Obama's inexperience and that he's naive." Or things like, "This is Interviewing 101. Hasn't Obama ever been in a job interview? They always ask you your greatest weakness and you are supposed to turn it into a positive." Well, the way I saw it was he was being honest. I mean, it's that simple. He didn't play any games. He didn't try to spin it. He simply told the public about a weakness he has, honestly, just like he was asked to do. The other candidates? Business as usual. Washington as usual. We get it...say one thing while meaning another. Obama is the straight shooter. He's the honest candidate. He's the future President that will listen to the People and give back honest answers, the facts as they are....the truth. That's what I took away from the Las Vegas debate. |
