Homeless Vets
During his campaign, John Edwards mentioned homeless vets and right away, Bill O'Reilly from FoxNews chided him for even saying there was any. So after several rants by Bill, a group of homeless veterans went to FoxNews to try to talk to him. Of course, his producer came out, filmed them, said that they would get back to them, course they didn't.
I think it's a horrible shame that there should be homeless veterans. If they do have mental issues, like Bill claimed, it's probably because of what they endured. We should take care of our soldiers that come back from the war. We shouldn't push them aside. If they have trouble coping with their return, either due to injury or emotional distress, they should be able to get the help they need. |

RE: Homeless Vets
I agree wholeheartedly, Sunken. In the city of Seattle, many homeless are veterans, and I fail to believe that they're just calling themselves vets in the hopes of garnering sympathy. We have homeless veterans, vets who've returned from Iraq with disabling mental injury (that's being called "borderline personality disorder" so the VA can refuse to treat them), and families of active-duty soldiers who can't afford to pay their bills because of the loss of income because their heads/partners of household are away on active duty.
I'm a pacifist who believes that war is never the answer -- no, not EVER! However, I also believe that those who enlist believe they're doing their duty to protect the country they love. And then what? The country turns its back on them when they need help the most. No one in this country should be forced to live on the street, and no veteran should ever suffer for lack of heath care, housing, or respect. |

RE: Homeless Vets
Vets should be able to get help when they return. There are hundreds of clinics and programs designed just for this problem. Thankfully people in the government are even doing more lately to make sure none of the vets go untreated.

RE: Homeless Vets
Impact of a war is always so horrible on soldiers that fight that they develop many phycological symptoms. They are the ones who suffer the most. Obviously they should be taken care off even after the war, because they are in the war just for us.
