Biggest accomplishments?
It's easy for people to find faults, so let's do things a bit differently:
What, in your opinion, have been Bush's biggest accomplishments and why? VQTE for Quality! http://www.vqte.com/ Help: How to use myCode How to post YouTube videos How to get an avatar under your username |

RE: Biggest accomplishments?
It's because of the war in Iraq that overshadows his accomplishments. For me the best accomplishment is he liberated Afghanistan.

RE: Biggest accomplishments?
He has a lot of "accomplishments" very few are good for us. Repeal of Habeas Corpus, Repeal of 4th amendment (requirement of warrant), torture, centralizing state guard under federal control, gun seizures during Katrina, usurped even more power from congress (declaration of war). There is more, but I really can't think of any that helped us.

RE: Biggest accomplishments?
His liberation of Afghanistan is in doubt though because of the violence and resurgence of the Taliban. The president of the country doesn't hold much power outside of the capital. The Pentagon is urging Bush to start sending more of a surge into Afghanistan more than in Iraq. Course Iraq pretty much drowns out any news you hear on the other front. Just because it's not making headline news doesn't mean it's not got it's problems.
As far as accomplishments, I am having a hard time myself in thinking of any that he can really hang his hat on. |

RE: Biggest accomplishments?
1. Banned Partial Birth Abortion
2. By Executive Order (EO), reversed Clinton's policy of not requiring parental consent for abortions under the Medical Privacy Act. 3. Requires states to conduct criminal background checks on prospective foster and adoptive parents. 4. Signed two income tax cuts, one of which was the largest dollar-value tax cut in world history. 5. Signed the No Child Left Behind Act, delivering the most dramatic education reforms in a generation (challenging the soft bigotry of low expectations). 6. Killed the Kyoto Global Warming Treaty 7. Disarmed Libya of its chemical, nuclear and biological WMD's without bribes or bloodshed. 8. Signed the LARGEST nuclear arms reduction in world history with Russia 9. Double the research budget of the National Institutes of Health. 10. Prohibited putting U.S. troops under U.N. command Of course it depends on where you fall on these issues and more if see them as accomplishments. |

RE: Biggest accomplishments?
Of course people are going to say he did a bad job (mainly because of the War in Iraq and the amount of U.S. casulaities resulting from this war.) However the time period that he was in office had some major situations that caused difficulties. Take for instance the 911 Attacks. No other president besides FDR had to deal with terrorist attacks. I believe his biggest accomplishement is seeing woman able to vote in Iraq and Afghanistan.

hideip Wrote:Take for instance the 911 Attacks. No other president besides FDR had to deal with terrorist attacks. Well, there was that attack on the WTC during the Clinton administration, and am I mistaken in thinking that the (domestic) terrorist attack on the Fed Building in OK City was under Clinton, as well? I could be wrong, as I didn't look it up to verify. Perhaps the greatest accomplishment President Bush's Administration has made is convincing the world that airplanes caused the disaster that resembles so amazingly closely the routine demolition of major skyscrapers. The sitting president is also highly accomplished in convincing the U.S. that it is right and just to put so many American Soldiers at risk (or far worse) in the name of corporate and political greed. I was highly impressed at a peace rally (in '04?) by a very young yet forceful soldier just back from her tour in Iraq who spit at the protesters, saying that they made her sick because everyone knows (because of Bush's great leadership) that if she and her comrades weren't over there killing Iraqis that the US would be under Iraqi rule by now. (And yes, that is a true story. It really happened. The soldier didn't like me at all, but her blind allegiance impressed me very much.) It may sound like I'm being highly sarcastic, and if it does, I'm sorry. (It's hard for me to speak in friendly terms on these issues, but I try.) My point is, in all honesty, that it is truly an accomplishment to make so many people unquestioningly follow your lead. Really, it is. Pure charisma, baby! |

He has given many Americans an appreciation of just how fragile a democracy can be. I'm sure you folks can elaborate for me.

RE: Biggest accomplishments?
Not all of us. Very few people have their blinders on so tight that they still like bush. I am ashamed to admit I supported him in both elections. I know many people who are die hard republicans and will admit he is one of the worst presidents ever. Even if we go with the assumption that the war is a good thing, what is the point of fighting for our freedoms abroad when our own government continually infringes on them? Go here http://www.vqte.com/political-alignment-t-6933.html take the test and report what you get.
